Review Topic: Adjustment of Status

Had my i-485 interview here on 08/06/2019 and was scheduled for 10:30am. We showed up quite early, went through the usual airport style security and made our presence known with the agent at 9:50am. We were called up early at approximately 10:05am. The guy who interviewed us was friendly and considerate, not at all like I was expecting. He mainly asked to confirm answers I gave on my i-485 application. The only change he made was my employment (my EAD/AP had arrived and I had a job in the US now). When we were done going over the information we had given, he noticed we had our photo book with us and smiled, asking us if he could see. He stated his favourite part of the day was seeing people's stories, and we were more than happy to oblige. He recommended we be approved on the spot, and the LPR card arrived on the morning of 08/10/2019, just days after our interview. On the whole, the experience at the Kansas City Field Office was friendly, efficient and smooth throughout. I had the same good experience during an InfoPass meeting back in May. I would recommend this Field Office.

Interview time was at 10:30am but we arrived before 10. Airport like security was fine. Sat in the waiting room for maybe 15-20 minutes before we got called back by a guy who was probably in his mid 50s or early 60s.

Interviewer had us stand, raise our right hands and promise to tell the truth. Once we did we sat down and he said "Welp, I dont anticipate this being too long since your file looks great! I'm not going to grill you like they show at the end of The Proposal with Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds." We laughed at that and I mentioned how my mom had asked me if that was what it was going to be like and I told her probably not. He went though the application just to make sure nothing had changed. He added that Matt is now working at Best Buy and that he's gotten (and paid off) a speeding ticket. He also asked us if we liked Blue Springs and said one of his sons lives there. He asked Matt our anniversary, which he got wrong and I stared at him with daggers. The Interviewer laughed and said he always likes asking the husbands that since he can see the panic in their eyes and then joked that he tells his Amazon Echo to remind him of his anniversary.

He asked if there was anything we wanted to add to the file so we gave copies of our joint car insurance, our lease, utility bills with both our names, and a joint bank statement. He said that since our file is good he'd recommend Matt for approval, but if they did need anything else they'd sent us a letter. Just as we were about to go, he saw that we had brought a photo album and asked if he could look through it. We of course said yes and he flipped though it; he mentioned seeing pictures of relationships are the best part of his day. He liked that we had photos at castles and churches in the UK and from trips here as well. Some of his favorites were us at Worcestershire cathedral, at castle ruins in Wales, Matt in front of the Ellis Island National Museum, Matt at a KC Royals game, my dad walking me down the aisle at our wedding, and my whole family and Matt wearing KC Chiefs shirts. He said that later this month there is an oath ceremony before a Royals game and they are trying to get about 500 people sign up to do their naturalization oath at it. He said they've done them at Sporting Kansas City soccer games as well.

Anyway, since he said he was gonna approve us we're just waiting on the app to update. He was thinking it should be by the end of the next day if they didnt find that they were needing anything additional. He said Matt's permanent residence card should be here in 3-4 weeks if not sooner! At 2:00am the day after the interview, we got an email saying a new card was being produced.

Review Topic: Naturalization

One of the security guy is grumpy and shouts at people. So I would suggest to be careful and follow exact instructions. He complained that all the people in line did not listen, so it’s not only me.

1. Gave my appointment (11am) letter at window 4 around 10.30am.
Waiting up to 11.15am
2. Officer called my name and she was very friendly.
3. once I entered her office, took the oath of being truth. Gave her all my passports, green cards, any ead cards.
4. Started off with civics test.
My questions were
a. Territory of US
b. Who was father of country
c. One branch of government
d. President at world war 1
e. Who did US fight in world war 2
f. 10 amendment- bill of rights
I answered all 6 correct, so no more questions.

5. English reading and writing test.
Was asked to read a line on tablet
Was asked to write “Lincoln was president of US” on tablet with stylus

6. Proceeded to my application.
Basically they go through all application by reading and see if any mistakes in names, address, employment etc.
You have to answer yes/no questions.
Question about registering.
Question about how your sponsor became us citizen.

She checked few things on her screen and said I’m approved 😀

Mentioned that I will get details about oath in mail.

Review Topic: Adjustment of Status

Hi guys!

My husband and I had our interview at the Kansas City USCIS in August 14th, 2018 @ 10:30am. Went into the building and the security was friendly and great. We finally checked in and sat.

We came in about 30 mins early and waited for about almost an hour, til our names got called.

We got called in by a female IO, and immediately we noticed she did not have a smile on her face, as you would say “resting b@&!$ face” greeted in a poorly manner, she literally looked like she did not want to be at work that day or started her day off real bad. So we sat down in her office she asked the usual questions to my husband if he was a terroists some sort of that thing. This ENTIRE time she did not look up. (Lol) as she asked the questions her demeanor did not change. She was like a robot. When it came to my turn to have questions asked, I answered everything correctly expect for my old address. I had forgotten my old address at the top of my head (which I had live in a different state prior) I stuttered and told her I did not remember my old address considering it’s been a year already. She gave me somewhat a disapproving look and I felt a little scared so I just blurted out my old address. Then she continued on to look at our photos (first time she EVER smiled) as we talked about Bass Pro. She then went on to ask why my family wasn’t there I explained to her that due to cultural beliefs my parents have disowned me due to the fact I married my husband who was only 2 years younger than me. Finally after everything she said that she “usually” reviews her cases after the day is over and she would let us know in mail if she would need anymore evidence. She proceeded to walk us out and that was it.

I noticed that on a lot of the AOS forums, couples who went for an interview either got approved on the spot OR they got a case status changed within a few days to a week. Our has been almost two weeks now. I know we’re suppose to wait 120 days but... considering we didn’t get any approval or any document to track our case status it was a little weird. My husband and I are really worried but he says everything will be fine.

Overall I had an okay experience at KC USCIS. Just to say the female IO was a redhead. She also looked very very tired lol.

Today's group of Officers were a bit testy at the metal detector but everyone else was outstanding. about a 20 min interview where we were asked the usual questions on how we met, dates, who attended our wedding etc. More like a directed conversation than a pointed Q&A session. The interviewer was very nice and professional. At the end he told us he was approving our GC application, and he would see us in about two years to remove those conditions....We can finally take a breath and recoup some money that we have shelled out while we wait.
